Big Apple Comicon

Oct 2009

Wow, what a great weekend.  Filled with movie stars, famous artists, upcoming game previews and anything else you could want (assuming you have a single nerd bone in your body).  Stars ranging from Billy Dee Williams to Thomas Jayne were in attendance giving photo ops and autographs, while in the artists alley, you can get autographs of prints or even custom Comic covers or artwork drawn on the spot for you.  We have a number of picks that we will be sorting through and posting throughout the week to give a little taste of the Big Apple Comicon ‘09.

Peace Walker

Oct 2009

Wow.  Its been more than a year since the phenominal MGS4 seemingly closed out the Metal Gear saga.  After a ride that was as amazing to watch as it was to experience, everyone knew they would try to keep the series alive, but havent quite figured out how after that.  Well this trailer that premiered at TGS09 is to try and fill out the gaps between Big boss and Solid Snake.  Note, playing MGS3 and Portable Ops would make it much more exciting, but even the passive MGS fan will be excited to see why Big Boss turned out the way he did.

Just to fill out a little history from memory, just to help understand the trailer.  Big Boss (Snake) was forced to kill his mentor/hero the Boss to help prevent some bad bad stuff (being vague on purpose except for what they show in the trailer, these are the events of MGS3).  Being disillusioned with fighting for a country (the US) Snake takes the time to to save the world and create a group of what is called nomads in the trailer, which is comprised of soldiers that have been abandoned or mistreated by thier respective countries.  Snake being the only person known for his combat prowess and being an overall hero leads these men into lives untethered by their home countries (MGS portable ops).   This pretty much brings you to the events of the trailer with Snake and his band, fighting for what they believe in, not what their countries tell them too, which if anyone knows MGS history leads to the very first game and its story of Outer Haven.

Ive left out a lot of the story and the good details, but all the hardcore fans will know all this and more, and will just enjoy the trailer.

Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter

Jun 2009
Johnny Depp Mad Hatter

Johnny Depp Mad Hatter

For those that aren’t aware, Tim Burton has an upcoming remake of the classic tale of Alice in Wonderland. This merry (yet sordid) tale will feature Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, Helena Bonham Carter as the Queen of Hearts, and Anne Hathaway as the White Queen, just to name a few. See more pictures after the jump.

Jun 2009

Here’s a great painting by Alex Ross, with Mr Barrack Obama portrayed as our quintessential super hero. We’ll see if even “Superman” can get us out of these tough economic times.

Thundercats Movie Trailer (Fan-made)

Dec 2008

Here’s a great fan-made trail for our beloved 80’s cartoon, Thundercats.  It features some pretty swell CG overlay on what appears to be Vin Diesel in the Chronicles of Riddick.

Thanks for passing along Dom.

Max Payne Movie Starring… Markie Mark?

Sep 2008
For those of you that know of and have played the excellent video game Max Payne, they made a movie that is coming out next month. It has a surprisingly decent cast for a video game to movie spin off. Marylin Manson playing in the background of the trailer makes it twisted, dark, and great. Check out the movie trailer here.

Iron Man Origami

Jun 2008

iron man origami

Our friends over at Gizmodo released some cool pics of these origami creations from a very talented Brian Chan.  Apparently he did all this using one piece of paper, and managed to do it without killing any terrorists.

**Update** Our guy Brian Chan is back at it again, with yet another fantastic origami creation, but this time of the soon to be pixar hit, Wall-E.  And for those that don’t believe he used a single sheet of paper, Giz even has a folding patterns used to create it.  We double-dog dare anyone to give it a go…

Star Wars (Imperial March) off Floppy Disk

Jun 2008

Just caught this movie link of the Star Wars Imperial March being played off what appears to be a 3.5 inch floppy disk (it pains me that I need to put a Wiki link here for this).  Not quite sure how this thing is setup or manages to play music, but the geek inside of me is impressed.

Thanks for the link Cava.

Iron Man Crushes Box Office: Studio Plans Sequel

May 2008

It should come as no surprise that following what was a monster opening weekend (in the neighborhood of $98.6 Million) Marvel Studios has announced plans to make an Iron Man sequel with a tentative launch date of April 2010. Those of us that stuck around until after the end credits of the movie probably saw this coming.

Coupled with a lot of fan buzz and overall good reviews, Iron Man got the summer started off on the right foot, and hopefully is an indication of what we can expect to see in the upcoming months.

New James Bond Poster – Quantum of Solace

Feb 2008

james bond

Looks like Bond is back, in what figures to be a direct sequel to Casino Royal. Taking place just moments following the end of the last James Bond movie, Quantum of Solace looks to continue the theme of James Bond still learning the ropes and finding his way to the vodka martini (shaken not stirred).

Personally, I was a big fan of how the last movie ended, so picking things up right where they ended is a big plus for me. “He had his heart broken at the end of the last movie and that certainly is a spur for him in this one” stated Daniel Craig, who will reprise his role as 007 himself.

Thanks for the link Cava.

New Halo 3 Commercial

Sep 2007

I just caught this new Halo 3 commercial on SportCenter. It depicts what appears to be scenes from a war where mankind is being slaughtered and dominated by their alien oppressors.

Then, at the very end there’s a glimmer of hope that only Master Chief can bring you. Couple that with some nice dramatic piano play, and you’ve got a friggin’ fantastic video game commercial.

Ninja Gaiden 2 Trailer

Sep 2007

New teaser trailer and live game shots from the upcoming Ninja Gaiden 2 game coming to X-BOX 360.  Now if only if Ryu Hayabusa could use that katana to cut through those “red ring of death” problems on the X-Box, we’ll be all set.

Chewie Impersonator in Court

Sep 2007

Chewbacca what a Wookie

Ever wonder what a “professional” Chewbacca impersonator actually looked like? Yeah, me neither, but check out this guy who showed up on an episode of Judge Joe Brown for what appears to be aggravated assault.

Wait for it… wait for it… “It’s not wise to upset a wookie.”

Bullet Proof Baby Stroller

Sep 2007

Bullet Proof Baby Stroller

Remember how Batman’s car in the first Tim Burton movie went into “armored” mode? That’s kinda what this crazy baby stroller from BulletProofBaby reminds me of.

Supposedly featured in the upcoming movie Shoot ‘Em Up, this baby carriage for super-paranoid-parents-with-too-much-money is worth checking out.

Especially the demo movie on the homepage that makes you wonder if these people should be locked up.

New Batman Dark Knight Trailer

Sep 2007

For those of you that haven’t seen it, here is the first movie trailer for the upcoming Batman movie, The Dark Knight. There aren’t any new visual shots from the movie, but there are some sound bites that should give you a nice taste of what’s to come. For more info from the movie, check out our other news items from the upcoming movie.

Also, for the fans of the original Tim Burton movies, I digged up the very first trailer from that classic.

The New Hulk Looks Like… Jose Conseco???

Aug 2007

The most recent ComicCon had a short video showing off the look of the new Hulk movie, starring Edward Norton Jr. And yes, he does look a little bit like that steroid abuser/whistle-blower Jose Conseco. Without the slugging average of course.

Rob Zombie’s New “Halloween” Trailer!

Aug 2007

I’m generally very negative about remakes of movie classics. But in the case of the new Halloween, I’m thinking Rob Zombie is twisted enough to actually put something interesting on screen.

From the looks of this trailer, Bobby Zombie (as good friends call him) keeps the mask like it was and most importantly, the music intact. Of course replacing Jaimee Lee Curtis and Donald Pleasance is no simple task, but I’m not going to make any final judgements until I’ve seen this flick.

Official Beowulf Trailer

Aug 2007

For those that haven’t heard, there is a new Beowulf movie coming out later this year starring Angelina Jolie and Anthony Hopkins. We’ve got the first official trailer from the upcoming movie, but if you want more you can always check out their official movie site.

After you’ve seen the movie you’re gonna be amazed by the fact that NONE of it is live action, but fully rendered CGI. It’ll would be nice to see a good CGI movie that isn’t based on a bunch of toys or furry little creatures.

Stay tuned for more updated news about this upcoming Beowulf movie.
